Is the Indoor Air you breath polluted?
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) deals with the health and comfort of the air inside buildings. The IAQ may be compromised by microbial contaminants (mold, bacteria), chemicals, allergens, or other contaminants that can affect the heath of people or animals. Often the perception is that outdoor air is polluted, but indoor air is acceptable. Green building is a complete system including intellegient design, technology, construction and maintenance elements to significantly lessen the negative impact of your home on the environment and improve the health of the people who live inside. Boston Oversight Inc., is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and a supporter of its Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) process.
LEED for Homes is a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes.
The evaluation process includes;
- Innovation and Design: maximum utilization of space, layout and concept
- Location & Linkages: site selection, preferred location, infrastructure, community
- Sustainable Site: erosion control, drought resistant landscaping, nontoxic pest control
- Water Efficiency: water reuse, high efficiency irrigation, high efficiency indoor fixtures
- Energy & Atomsphere: insulation, air filtration, windows & doors, heating & cooling, lighting & appliances
- Materials & Resources: efficient use, waste management, environmentaly preferrable products
- Indoor Environmental Quality: ventilation, moisture, filtering, contaminants, pollution controls
- Awareness & Education: owners and building managers awareness and education of Green Building
